The Big Woods Big Band is northern Wisconsin's most popular dance jazz orchestra. Born in early 1994, their performances have taken across the northern tier of Wisconsin to a warm reception wherever they have played. The performers hail from communities throughout northwest Wisconsin including Ashland, Cable, Drummond, Hayward, Seeley, Superior, Winter, Washburn and Ironwood, MI. Over half the members are past, present, or aspiring music educators - you could say that the group is very "well schooled." The Big Woods Big Band was formed by Ron Bergin of Cable as a way of providing an opportunity for area musicians who enjoy big band music to get together and have some fun and to help keep the big
band sound alive. Ron holds degrees from Berklee College of Music in Boston and Columbia College in Chicago. He worked as a music educator in Newton, Massachusetts and in addition to directing junior high stage bands and high school jazz ensembles, has played in several big bands and dozens of theatre orchestras.
